Welcome to this week’s installment of That Hashtag Show’s What To Watch, a viewing guide for new releases from this week and the upcoming weekend. I will attempt to hit all of the major new releases across theatres, television, and streaming. But of course, if I’ve missed something, please let me know in the comments. Also, be sure to let us know what you are watching this weekend in the comments or on social media.

WATCH TO WATCH: THEATRE RELEASES

This week we have two major films making their way to theatres. Premiering this week are the supernatural horror film The Last Voyage of the Demeter and the motorsports drama Gran Turismo.

THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER

There has been a countless number of Dracula films over the years, and this weekend we get another entry. One aspect that certainly makes The Last Voyage of the Demeter unique, is that this instance is based on just a single chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel. If the idea of a crew stranded on a 19th-Century ship trying to survive Dracula sounds like your kind of suspense and horror, then you’ll definitely want The Last Voyage to be on your weekend plans.

Release Date: August 11, 2023

What’s it about?: Based on a single chilling chapter from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London

Who’s in it?: Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham, David Dastmalchian

GRAN TURISMO

The Fast and The Furious isn’t the only racing movie to check out this year. Hitting theaters this weekend is Gran Turismo. The film is inspired by the true story of Jann Mardenborough. Jann won a competition that Gran Turismo and Nissan held to give a player of the game a chance to be an actual driver. You can find our full review of the film here.

For people who love and live cars, Gran Turismo will be perfect. It’s a car lovers’ wet dream with plenty of fast cars, some wrecks, and technical jargon about catching the edge. For others, it’s still a satisfying underdog story that happens to be true. Jann works as a character because we were all young at one point and had dreams of achieving the impossible. It taps into that youthful exuberance and gives a story that anyone can relate to.

Hunter Bolding, That Hashtag Show
