Get ready to venture under the sea in September. Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid premieres on streaming next month!
The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey officially arrives on Disney+ September 6. The film’s streaming debut will also launch several bonus features, including Oscar-winner Javier Bardem performing King Triton’s cut song “Impossible Child”; “Passing the Dinglehopper” featurette; and “Under the Sea” song breakdown.
In The Little Mermaid, Ariel, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The live-action film reimagines Disney’s 1989 animated classic of the same name. Bailey stars as Ariel. The film also stars Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Javier Barden as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina lend their voices to Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle respectively.
The Little Mermaid comes from director Rob Marshall and writer David Magee, both Oscar nominees. Alan Menken, who composed the music from the original animated film, also returned to bring new music to the live-action adaptation, and Tony-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda provided new lyrics.
You can stream the live-action The Little Mermaid on Disney+ beginning September 6. The original animated version is also available to stream now.
