It looks like Barbie summer will easily transition into Barbie fall. The biggest summer blockbuster (shaping up to be the biggest movie of the year) will begin streaming on Max later this year.
Barbie officially premiered in theaters July 21. And in less than two weeks, the response from moviegoers has been huge. In just the first week, the movie brought in nearly $500 million at the global box office. (Now, it’s closing in on $1 billion.)
While people continue to flock to theaters in droves to check out the film, it will also hit homes through streaming in the coming months. Though an exact date hasn’t been announced yet, Barbie will arrive on the Warner Bros-Discovery streaming platform Max this fall.
Barbie comes from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig. It stars Margot Robbie as the central Barbie, who undergoes a bit of an existential crisis which leads her to venture out of Barbieland and into the Real World. Naturally, she’s accompanied by Ken (Ryan Gosling), whose own experience in the Real World leads him to shake things up back in Barbieland.
The extended cast also includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Dua Lipa, and Oscar winner Helen Mirren.
You can watch Barbie in theaters now. Otherwise, check back to THS to find out when the movie will officially hit streaming on Max.
