Any fans of Spice and Wolf here back when that anime premiered all the way back in January 9, 2008? It may not be to everyone’s tastes though. I doubt an economics-based storyline with a dash of romance and slice of life would be to most people’s tastes, really. Still, it has its fans, including myself. It’s why I was so surprised when I heard that this anime is getting a HD remake. Don’t believe me? Get ready for some more harvest goddess helping out with mercantile matters!

TOHO animation is proud to announce that Spice and Wolf will be getting a remake anime via that official PV trailer above on YouTube. Said PV trailer reveals that this remake will be called Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, as well as showing off some gorgeous animation, which you can see even in the thumbnail. It looks like animation studio Passione (Citrus, Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou, Yuri Is My Job!) is really putting in the effort here. Maybe Passione will even finish the storyline of the original light novel by Isuna Hasekura this time around? Well, it’s certainly our hope that they do so. Especially since that original 2008 anime left off on a cliffhanger and never got back to it. We just have to pray to the Harvest Goddess that this doesn’t happen again.

Alas, it will be a while until we get to see if that’s truly the case. At the end of the PV trailer, it reveals that Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf will make its debut sometime in 2024. Unfortunately, we have no idea which streaming service will be streaming this remake anime. It basically comes down to Crunchyroll, Hulu, or HiDive. It could be any of these three, really.
