Grab your chocolate bars and fizzy lifting drinks. Your first look at Wonka is here.
The upcoming Warner Bros. feature serves as an origin story for Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character.
“I’ve spent the past seven years traveling the world, perfecting my craft. You see, I’m something of a magician, inventor, and chocolate maker,” says star Timothée Chalamet in the trailer’s voice over.
Check out the first trailer for Wonka below, which offers up your first look at Chalamet as the chocolatier… And a surprising appearance by Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa.
Described as an “irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle,” Wonka introduces audiences to a young Willy Wonka, just getting started on his candy-making journey. Chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time, he sets out to prove that the best things in life begin with a dream. And if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.
The film comes from writer/director Paul King. King previously worked on the Paddington films, and you can see a similar sort of look and feel developing in the Wonka trailer. The movie’s producers also include David Heyman (Harry Potter), Alexandra Derbyshire (Paddington), and Luke Kelly (Roald Dahl’s The Witches).
In addition to Chalamet, the film’s stars also include Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, and Olivia Colman.
Wonka will premiere in theaters December 15.
