Yesterday, news broke that Ozzy Osbourne had to drop out of Power Trip 2023. Now, according to Billboard, Judas Priest is stepping up to take his spot on the bill alongside AC/DC on Saturday night. Judas Priest toured extensively in 2022 to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Power Trip takes off on October 6th-8th in California.
Here is Judas Priest’s statement on joining Power Trip:
“POWER TRIPPERS ARE YOU READY FOR SOME JUDAS PRIEST STYLE HEAVY METAL! WE ARE EXCITED AND READY TO RAISE DOUBLE HORNS WAY UP HIGH TOGETHER KEEPING THE METAL FAITH AT THIS BOSTIN ONE OF A KIND POWER TRIP WORLD EVENT!”
Judas Priest was a logical choice to replace Ozzy with the way the bill was scheduled. Friday night sees 1980s bands Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden. The Saturday show sees 1970s icons AC/DC and now Judas Priest. Sunday has the 90s on display with Metallica and Tool. Those eras don’t exactly fit, but a band like Slayer or Rammstein was never going to fit into that Saturday slot with AC/DC.
Priest are the perfect replacement considering the circumstances. They’ve been friends with Ozzy for decades and have a deep respect and admiration from all the bands on the bill. Judas Priest is currently working on a new album and their date at Power Trip is their only show so far for the second half of 2023. We’ll have to see if they undergo a small bit of touring to get their legs underneath them or not.
This is a developing story. We’ll keep you updated as we get news.
