It turns out that besides an absolutely atrocious “cover’ of “Barbie Girl” by AQUA, the Barbie soundtrack features Slash from Guns ‘N Roses. The new toy-based movie is one of the most anticipated of the Summer, with a release coming on July 21st. Variety had a conversation with producer Mark Ronson, who is co-scoring the film with Andrew Wyatt. He let slip that Slash plays the guitar solo and rhythm guitar for the track “I’m Just Ken” in the film.

Here’s what he had to say about how the track came together.

“I sent him the song and he was like, ‘This is a good song… cool, I’ll play on it.’ He kills it, he plays the solo at the end and the rhythm parts. It’s wonderful.”

Ryan Gosling plays Ken in the film and also lends his vocal talents to the track.

In addition to Slash, the Barbie soundtrack sees the likes of Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, and plenty of other artists.

As for the track, Slash lays down some pretty sick guitar licks, hopefully the full version is just as good and emotional.
