It’s all Tron: Ares news all day today, apparently. We first got news that Greta Lee was tapped as the star of the film alongside Jared Leto and Evan Peters. Now, Variety is reporting that Jodie Turner–Smith has also joined the film in a starring role. She’s the star of Queen & Slim and the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte.
It’s described that she has the leading role in the film. They’re gearing up for production in August in Vancouver. Joachim Ronning is in the director’s chair. She’s set to star alongside Jared Leto and Evan Peters. Leto is said to be playing the titular Ares. While, Peters is supposed to be playing the film’s villain, Ed Dillinger Jr. from Tron: Legacy. Lee stars as a video game programmer and tech company CEO who has to go on the run in order to protect her world-changing technology.
Additional plot details are being kept under wraps. There’s no word on Jodie Turner-Smith’s role
The first film was released in 1982 and capitalized on the video game craze of the early ’80s and starred Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn. They finally made a sequel in 2010 with Tron: Legacy that featured Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde and brought back Jeff Bridges. It was one of the first films to feature de-aging technology that made Bridges look like a younger version of himself when they were in the world of Tron.
The script for Ares, written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, is said to focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world.
