The story follows three “Bay Area urbanites” as they traverse the country in search of connection. Check out the trailer for Shortcomings below.
The film serves as Randall Park’s directorial debut and stars Justin Min, Sherry Cola, and Ally Maki, developed from the award-winning graphic novel by Adrian Tomine.
Shortcomings stars Justin H. Min as Ben, a struggling filmmaker; Ally Maki as his girlfriend Miko; and Sherry Cola as his best friend Alice. When Miko moves across the country to New York for an internship, Ben flounders a bit when left to his own devices.
The film draws from the work of Eisner-winning cartoonist Tomine. The original graphic novel was recognized by the New York Times as a “Notable Book of the Year.” Tomine also adapted the script for the film, and executive produces.
Actor/comedian Park (WandaVision, Fresh Off the Boat) makes his directorial debut with the film.
Shortcomings previously aired at Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals. Sony Pictures Classics distributes the film. It will release August 4.
