After years of calling out to the universe, the universe has decided to answer. Today, Pixar revealed a first look at the upcoming animated feature Elio. 

The story follows a young boy who finds himself inadvertently beamed up by an alien delegation. They believe Elio is the leader of Earth. So, Elio will have to navigate this unfamiliar world of aliens – and alien politics – as the new ambassador of Earth.

Here’s the official synopsis from Pixar:

For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers. In Disney and Pixar’s all-new movie Elio, the universe calls back! The original feature film introduces Elio, an underdog with an active imagination who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, and completely unprepared for that kind of pressure, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, survive a series of formidable trials, and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.

Yonas Kibreab leads the voice cast as Elio. America Ferrera voices his mother, Olga. Today, Pixar revealed the voice cast will also feature Jameela Jamil and Brad Garrett. The actors will lend their voices to two of the alien ambassadors, Questa and Grigon.

The film comes from director Adrian Molina. Molina previously wrote and co-directed Pixar’s Coco.

Elio plans to release in theaters March 1, 2024.

Ahead of this release, Pixar will debut another new flick this summer, Elemental. It hits theaters June 16.
