It was some late-breaking news last night, but it looks like DC has found a director for their upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold film. According to our friends at One Take News, Andy Muschietti was chosen to direct the film. He’s currently on the press tour for his film The Flash, which acts as sort of a bridge between eras for DC. The Flash has been in development and production for years now and has seen new leadership at DC take over in James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Both Muschietti and Gunn have been teasing something new between the two of them for a while now. Muschietti has said about a possible Batman film that “I don’t think I can talk to that yet.”
He’s directed plenty of films over the years, including The Flash, It, and the upcoming Welcome To Derry prequel series for Max.
This is now the third upcoming DC film to have a director attached after James Gunn is directing Superman: Legacy and James Mangold is directing Swamp Thing. The film should follow Batman as he learns to live with his biological son, Damian Wayne.
UPDATE: Christina Hodson Is Not Attached To Write Batman: The Brave and the Bold
There are also rumors that the film has a writer attached in Christina Hodson. The Hodson news has sources saying that it’s being held back because of the writer’s strike. We’ll have to see how this all shakes out and if we get any official confirmation from DC or other sources.
You can see Muschietti directing a couple of versions of Batman in The Flash with Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. That film releases in theaters on June 16th.
