Hugely influential and multi-million-selling recording artist Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83. Her representatives had this to say in a statement.
“Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee. She rose to popularity and fame in the 1960s as the singer of the band Ike & Tina Turner Revue. It wasn’t until she became a solo artist that her career entered the stratosphere. She thrilled millions of fans around the world with hits like ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It”, “Private Dancer”, and “The Best”. She sold more than 180 million albums around the world, won 12 Grammy Awards, and sold out concerts for over three decades.
Her spokesperson also had this to say:
“There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family. Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time.”
