Nearly twenty-two years later and ten installments later, Fast X proved to be a formidable foe for the reigning champion, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at the box office.
As per Box Office Mojo, Fast X did make slightly less however than its predecessor, F9: The Fast Saga, that movie made $70 Million in its opening weekend. Whereas Fast X made $67 million this past weekend in its opening weekend. In our review, reviewer Jessica Lancaster said:
Is Fast X good? Is it not enough to see Dominic Toretto flip a car with one hand? To see Jordana Brewster and John Cena tag-team to throw a man out a window, see Brie Larson start a bar fight while wearing a “Good Vibes Only” jacket, see Charlize Theron and Michelle Rodriguez try their best to beat the shit out of each other, see Sung Kang hit a guy with a crowbar? Is it not enough to rejoice in dialogue so cheesy you and the stranger next to you in the theater predict the line out loud in unison before the character even says it? To root for a campy, over-the-top villain to blow up the Vatican and then paint his nails?
If none of that appeals to you, Fast X probably isn’t your movie, and Fast and Furious isn’t your franchise. But I’m watching, and I’m undeniably entertained.
Those In Fast X’s Trail
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 scored an additional $32 million this weekend at the box office, making it the second-place movie this weekend. It now totals $659 million internationally. Despite now being on digital, The Super Mario Bros. Movie still earned $9.8 million, giving it the third place spot. Book Club: The Next Chapter and Evil Dead Rise close out the fourth and 5th place spot respectively
Under The Sea
Next week sees the release of Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. With it being Memorial Day in the US, the movie is eyeing a $110M opening weekend at the box office, which would easily set it in the first place spot. We’ll have to wait and see how well Fast X performs in its second weekend.
