If you thought The Meg was the silliest film you’ve ever seen, then Meg 2: The Trench will upend your predictions on the silliness front. Based solely on the new official trailer, this new film about even more unrealistically giant sharks with completely unrealistic and physics-defying behavior promises to be even sillier. Don’t believe me? Then why not watch the trailer for yourself, and see the shark-flavored silliness in action? Now with dinosaurs mixed in.

Meg 2: The Trench ~ Some Very Silly Details

This is…I can’t…this is just too silly for me.

Warner Bros. Pictures is…proud(?) to announce Meg 2: The Trench with that official trailer above on YouTube. As you might expect from the name alone, the trailer is quite silly. It’s in fact the silliest thing I’ve ever seen in a trailer yet. Even better: it seems to be entirely intentional. Well, mostly.

The trailer starts with dinosaurs (of course), and results in a Megalodon beaching itself high and dry to nab a T-rex…and somehow pulling itself back into the water. In complete disregard for physics, of course. And also in complete disregard for the fossil record of Megalodon, considering that they wouldn’t have been alive when T-rex was. But as you can see in the rest of the trailer: realism wasn’t really high on director Ben Wheatley’s priorities. If the sight of a blue whale-sized Megalodon eating a tiny lapdog a mere sliver of a fraction of its size doesn’t tell you that already, well, I don’t know what else to tell you.

'Meg 2: The Trench' poster.
Why would a Megalodon expend so much effort to eat such a tiny morsel? I have no idea, and I don’t think the writers do either.

If you do actually want to watch this silliness for yourself, then don’t worry. Warner Bros. has your back here. For at the end of that trailer, it reveals that Meg 2: The Trench will make its nautically silly theatrical debut on August 4, 2023.
