The almost formerly known as HBO Max has a massive library of titles, but that library is about to dwindle because of cuts to the service ahead of its rebranding as MAX. The platform has seen some major changes due to the merger of Warner Bros. Discovery. Most of those changes came in the form of cuts to animation like Adult Swim and Cartoon Network last summer. Now, it appears they’re making more cuts to animation catalogs across the service.
The service has updated its “Last Chance” catalog now that we’re in the month of May. The category includes titles that are set to leave the service by the month’s end including a good bunch of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim titles.
Here’s the full list of animated titles leaving the service including Ben 10 and Metalocalypse:
- Ben 10: Ultimate Alien
- Ben 10: Omniverse
- Dexter’s Laboratory
- Ben 10: Alien Force
- Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
- Flapjack
- Clarence
- Metalocalypse
- Space Ghost Coast to Coast
There’s been no comment on their exit from HBO Max. We can only hope that this is a licensing oversight and not a sign for the future of MAX. With HBO Max, that might be too hopeful because of their massive cuts to animation last summer including canceling multiple projects and sending others to the bin of ‘tax write-offs”. Shows and movies like the sequel to Scoob, Final Space, and more were targeted with cuts by Warner Bros. Discovery.
We’ll have to see if these shows make a return when they rebrand as MAX later this month. Licensing issues are always a problem in Hollywood and on these streaming services. HBO Max becomes MAX on May 23rd with three price tiers attached. If you’re a current HBO Max subscriber, you shouldn’t see any problems switching over.
