We have two Alien projects working concurrently right now. First, we have the Fede Alvarez-directed film. We also have the Noah Hawley-ran series coming to FX. That series now has its first bit of casting news with Sydney Chandler joining the cast. Chandler is the first person cast for the series from the Fargo showrunner.
Plot details are unknown, as are details about what or who Chandler is playing in the series. The only thing that’s known is that she’s one of the leads.
The series was picked up by FX in late 2020 and has really been dormant since then. The good thing about it for fans of the Alien movies, is that it’s not a remake or a reboot of the series, but an extension of the franchise. It will not feature any characters from the movies, including Ellen Ripley.
For those that are violently and vehemently against remakes and reboots, that’s got to be good news.
FX CEO John Landgraf had this to say about the series.
“It’s the first story in the Alien franchise that takes place on Earth. It takes place on our planet, near the end of this century we’re currently in — 70-odd years from now. I hope they will feel like it’s faithful to the franchise they love but also a brave and original reinvention of that franchise.
Setting it on Earth is really interesting. We have to think forward about the future of the planet in terms of the environment, governance, technology and create and design a version of the planet in the future … Noah wants to do that in a distinctive and original way
Who Is Sydney Chandler?
Chandler made her TV debut in the FX limited series Pistol, where she played The Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde. She also appeared in Olivia Wilde‘s Don’t Worry Darling.
We’ll have to see how the series turns out, it doesn’t currently have a release date. With this first casting news, there are sure to be more details coming out about it in the coming weeks.
