Did you know that J. R. R. Tolkien’s high fantasy classic will finally get an anime film adaptation in the form of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim? Finally, we’ll get to see what a The Lord of the Rings anime will look like. Unfortunately, it looks like there won’t be a NA release of this anime film anytime soon. Not if France has anything to say about it.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim ~ The Fellowship of the Annecy?

Covered Geekly has just revealed in a Twitter post (along with that first look image above) that The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim from director Kenji Kamiyama will make a very early debut at the 2023 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in Annecy, France. Not only that, but the anime film’s producer Jason DeMarco (going by his Twitter handle of SPIRAL CURSE DEMARCO) has also confirmed its early debut at Annecy in a separate Tweet. According to DeMarco, this anime film film will not only have a panel at Annecy, but he implies that the panel will have some behind-the-scenes content for attendees as well. They’re definitely hyped about this anime film, that’s for certain. And who wouldn’t be at hearing about a The Lord of the Rings anime?

If you want to check out The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim at Annecy for yourself, then you’re going to have to wait for June 2023. Annecy takes place from June 11 to June 17. Unfortunately, we don’t know which date this anime film will premiere on. Tune back in to THS later to find that out if we do.

If you can’t attend Annecy though, then fear not. For The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will make its grand theatrical debut on April 12, 2024. It’s a bit of a wait, admittedly. However, the first The Lord of the Rings anime might very well be worth it.
