A new Transformers animated prequel was announced at CinemaCon 2023 during Paramount’s panel. The new film titled Transformers One stars Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
This is an origin story that tells how Optimus Prime and Megatron went from brothers to enemies.
Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation had this to say.
“I’m so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated ‘Transformers’ movie to theaters for a never-before-told story.
I’m honored to have such incredible talents come together to portray these well-known and much-loved characters in an origin story at the heart of the franchise.”
Steven Spielberg is executive producing Transformers One with Brian Goldner, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer, and Valerii An.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was a big portion of Paramount’s presentation. They also showed off a new trailer for the film that you can watch below.
We’ll have to see how this new animated prequel turns out and what kind of animation style they use. Any footage of it that was shown at CinemaCon 2023 won’t be seen for quite a while.
This new casting seems to have ruffled some feathers of the original series Transformers fans. The legendary voice of Optimus Prime Peter Cullen won’t be reprising his role here. It makes sense considering that it’s a younger version of the character though.
Rise of the Beasts hits theaters on June 9th, 2023.
