Is this the first you’ve ever heard of Lonely Castle in the Mirror? If it is, then you’re not alone. This is the first I’ve heard of this anime film too. Judging by the new official trailer GKIDS posted for the anime film though, it seems to be a potentially good one. Fairly relevant too, given that it was made in the post-COVID era. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out that trailer for yourself below?

The Loneliest Fantasy Castle?

Why am I getting Narnia vibes from this thumbnail?

GKIDS is proud to announce that they’ve acquired the NA distribution rights to the anime film Lonely Castle in the Mirror via the official trailer above on YouTube. What is this anime film, you might ask? Apparently, it’s the anime film adaptation (with Keiichi Hara directing) of the Japanese mystery novel of the same name by Mizuki Tsujimura. And boy does this anime film seem relevant to us based solely on that trailer.

Said trailer shows the main character Kokoro getting transported (via stepping through a magic mirror) to a fantastical castle sitting high on top of some rocks in the middle of an ocean. A girl in a wolf mask welcomes her, and several other kids to said castle, where they quickly bond over secluding themselves from school (you know, kind of like the Covid-19 quarantine). It seems that the wolf mask girl wants them to play a game, but once they complete the game, their memories of the castle (and thus their time with each other) will auto-delete. Honestly, this is making Lonely Castle in the Mirror sound like The Chronicles of Narnia, but if it was an escape game.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror: Synopsis and Release Date?

Now if only that was a painting, then we could almost pretend that it’s Super Mario 64.

Fortunately, GKIDS also has an official synopsis of Lonely Castle in the Mirror to further explain the plot. You can check it out below:

Shy outcast Kokoro has been avoiding school for weeks when she discovers a portal in her bedroom mirror. She reaches through and finds herself transported to an enchanting castle where she is joined by six other students. When a girl in a wolf mask explains that they have been invited to play a game, the teens must work together to uncover the mysterious connection that unites them. However, anyone who breaks the rules will be eaten by a wolf.

Unfortunately, we have no idea when we’ll get to see Lonely Castle in the Mirror. The most we got is the end of that trailer telling us it is “coming soon”. How soon is anyone’s guess. We’ll just have to wait for GKIDS to give us that info someday. Tune back in to THS later to find out that release date when we hopefully do.
