It looks like Radio Silence and Melissa Barrera have a pretty good working relationship.
Deadline is reporting that Barrera is set to join Radio Silence’s upcoming Untitled Monster Thriller at Universal. Radio Silence is the film-making trio behind movies like Scream, Scream VI, and Ready Or Not. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directed Barrera in Scream and Scream VI. Along with their partner Chad Villella, they’ll be serving as producers alongside William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt. The script was written by Stephen Shields and revised by Guy Busick.
Universal has taken a new approach with their classic monsters in recent years with films like The Invisible Man and Renfield. They’re making them more filmmaker driven and allowing for fresh, new directions on how to celebrate these classic characters.
The horror genre allows for a variety of takes and depictions for these monsters that range from actually frightening to something like Renfield that takes a more comedic approach.
Radio Silence has had this project on their docket for a while now, but they had to put it on the back burner for Scream VI.
They tested other actresses for the role, but quickly realized that Melissa Barrera was the one that they wanted for the role.
