We’re coming up on the 40th anniversary of the landmark live album from Black Sabbath, Live Evil. To celebrate, they’re joining up with BMG to release a deluxe edition of the album on June 2nd, 2023. It features the classic lineup of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice.

The new edition includes a hardback book, replica tour brochure, and poster with a 4CD and 4LP set.

Live Evil was recorded live in Los Angeles on April 23rd, 1982, and 24th, 1982, in Seattle on May 12th, 1982, and in Dallas on May 13th, 1982. This is famously the album and recording that led to Dio’s first departure from Black Sabbath. He and Tony Iommi both wanted different vocal mixes for the album, and Dio didn’t want the versions of him singing Ozzy Osbourne-era songs on the record. So apparently Dio went in in the wee hours of the morning to mess with the recordings, or that’s how the story goes.
