If you wanted classic Metallica back, you’ve got it with ’72 Seasons’.
The latest track from their upcoming album, 72 Seasons, chugs along and builds up to a thunderous conclusion. It’s got all the hallmarks of a new Metallica classic, a sick sounding solo from Kirk Hammett, and plenty more. Give it a listen above.
72 Seasons is coming out on April 14th, 2023. It’s been six years since Hardwired…To Self Destruct. The new album has 12 tracks coming in at over 77 minutes. 72 Seasons was produced by Greg Fidelman alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
Here’s what James Hetfield had to say about the title of the new album.
Is there a special meaning to the title?” you ask. James explains it best: “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.
Metallica is teaming up with Trafalgar to put on listening parties across the world for the release of 72 Seasons. You can check out more details here.
