The upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man now has a new foe.
According to DanielRPK and confirmed by TVLine, Demetrius Grosse has signed on to play Eric Williams, the brother of Simon Williams (Wonder Man). Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play the role of Simon, and production is expected to begin sometime in the spring.
Wonder Man first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1964 in The Avengers run. Wonder Man, aka Simon Williams, is the son of the industrialist Sanford Williams. He assumes control of his father’s munitions outfit following his passing, seeing its successes limited when it comes into competition with Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Simon gains ion-based superpowers, including super strength, while working under the villainous Baron Zemo and establishing himself as an antagonist to The Avengers, though he later decides to become part of that same superhero team.
He’s connected to Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision in the comics and even developed feelings for Wanda. The character in the ’80s was a superhero, but his public persona was that of an actor and stuntman. So far, there hasn’t really been a Marvel take on that lifestyle. We’ll have to see when Disney and Marvel announce more about the character.
His brother, on the other hand, went the opposite way. He’s a lifelong criminal and wields a scythe that causes comas and more. He eventually goes by the name Grim Reaper.
You might know Demetrius Grosse from series like Fear The Walking Dead or Justified or other roles like in Banshee and The Brave.
Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are developing the series with Guest serving as the head writer. James Ponsoldt is in talks to direct episodes of the series. Ben Kingsley is set to return as Trevor Slattery and Bob Odenkirk is also eyed for a mystery role in the series.
