Netflix Marvel fans rejoice! Jon Bernthal is back as the Punisher for the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. The actor previously portrayed the character in The Punisher, Daredevil, and The Defenders. He joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series which begins shooting in New York later this month. The Hollywood Reporter had the first news on this story.
The show is being written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
Born Again comes from the landmark storyline published back in 1986. That run was written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzuchelli. It laid the foundation for the modern iteration of Daredevil, but it didn’t feature The Punisher at all. We’ll have to see how this storyline develops with the MCU’s take on it.
The series follows the Netflix version that ran from 2013-2018. Some of the actors from that series aren’t set to reprise their roles though. Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, aren’t on the roll sheet for the upcoming Disney+ series.
Daredevil and Kingpin are also huge parts of the upcoming series Echo, which is currently in production. Charlie Cox made a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and then another appearance in She-Hulk as a love interest of Jennifer Walters.
Kevin Feige has been no stranger to the massive fandom that the Netflix shows gained while they were on the air. This casting and bringing back Cox and D’Onofrio have already gone a long way to appeasing fans of those shows.
We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
