The Weeknd is heading to the movies. According to Deadline, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye joins director Trey Edward Shults on an untitled film that stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
Shults is directing the film and co-wrote the script with Tesfaye and his producing partner Reza Fahim. Ortega is also a producer on the film. There are no plot details as of right now, and the film is currently in production. Shults and The Weeknd have been secretly working on the film for months. Ortega and Keoghan were both blown away by the script and signed on immediately.
Those two have been in heavy demand as of late due to their rising profiles in Hollywood. Jenna Ortega is one of the most in-demand actresses after performances in Wednesday, Scream, and You. While Keoghan has already seen critical acclaim for his performances in Eternals and The Banshees of Insherin. You can check out Jenna Ortega next in Scream VI coming out in March.
The Weeknd has yet to cross over into feature film roles, but he’s set to star in the upcoming HBO series The Idol, which he co-created with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. Shults is known for his directing on films like Waves and It Comes At Night.
For now, that’s all we know about the mystery project, but we’ll keep you updated as news develops.
