Good news: it seems that The Pokémon Company and Netflix will be teaming up for a new Pokémon series in the form of Pokémon Concierge. Even better news: this new series will be a stop-motion claymation animated series to boot. Fans of claymation animation like Wallace and Gromit will probably be rejoicing at this news. Don’t believe me? Then why don’t you check out their short but sweet teaser trailer below?
Pokémon Concierge: A Nice, Relaxing Tropical Slice of Life?
The Pokémon Company and Netflix are proud to announce their new animated Pokémon series: Pokémon Concierge. As you can see from the 25-second long teaser trailer above on YouTube, this new series (with production by dwarf studios) will be entirely in stop-motion claymation animation. In fact, I’m almost certain that this will be the first official claymation Pokémon series in existence when it comes out. All other efforts so far have been from fan animators. Just from that teaser trailer alone, though, it looks like it will be on par with big-name claymation studios. You know, like Aardman Animations (Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep).
Netflix is looking forward to delighting fans in Japan and around the world with ‘Pokémon Concierge,’ an entirely new visual and storytelling experience featuring ground-breaking stop-motion animation set in the Pokémon world in close collaboration with The Pokémon Company. We’re also excited to reveal this new series on Pokémon Day and provide fans with even more things to look forward to on this special holiday celebrating the popular franchise.
Minyoung Kim, Vice President of Netflix Content in Asia
According to The Pokémon Company and Netflix: Pokémon Concierge will star a new heroine named Haru and her Psyduck. She will be working at a seaside resort for Pokémon and their Trainers simply called “Pokémon Resort”. Unfortunately, that’s it as far as story details.
Even more unfortunately, what The Pokémon Company and Netflix don’t tell us about Pokémon Concierge is any release date. Not even a release window, really. The most they have to say about it is that it’s “Coming soon”. Tune back in to THS later to find out how soon is that when we do.
