Zach Galifianakis has entered the world of Disney and Lilo and Stitch. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Galifianakis has closed a deal to join the live-action version of the classic 2000s animated film. In addition to that casting, Dean Fleischer Camp has joined on the film as director. Camp is best known for directing Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.
The new live-action version is set for release on Disney+ and is part of Disney’s push to make live-action versions of their classic animated catalog. The story follows Lilo, a little girl who years for a friend and the dog-like alien Stitch, who crash lands on Earth after being chased across the galaxy. The two bond over a shared sense of family.
There’s no specifics to what Galifianakis’s role will be in the film. Stitch in the film will be computer generated.
Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the script for the adaptation. Galifianakis is making his return to big-budget studio filmmaking after taking some time off from it for TV work.
