Our live-action journey under the sea draws closer. Disney released a new teaser for its upcoming adaptation of The Little Mermaid today.
It’s a quick one – just a 30 second spot – so there’s not a ton of new content for fans to latch onto. It features the same Halle Bailey vocal clip of “Part of Your World” from the initial trailer. But we do get a couple new shots of Bailey’s Ariel swimming around, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance of Jonah Haur-King as Prince Eric.
However, the spot does end on an exciting note – an evil laugh from Melissa McCarthy’s sea witch, Ursula. It’s accompanied by the smallest look of her in character. Check it out in the “Wish” teaser below.
In The Little Mermaid, Ariel, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The film follows Disney’s recent tradition of taking some of its classic animated features and adapting them in live-action. This version of The Little Mermaid comes from Oscar-nominated director Rob Marshall and Oscar-nominated writer David Magee.
In addition to Bailey, McCarthy, and Haur-King, the film stars Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, and Javier Bardem as King Triton.
The Little Mermaid premieres in theaters May 26.
