John Luther’s TV journey wrapped up back in 2019. But now, the detective is back for a feature film, thanks to Netflix. Idris Elba will reprise his lead role in Luther: The Fallen Sun.
The movie sees a gruesome serial killer terrorize London, while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Elba) sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.
“This old case that he did work on that didn’t really ever get solved or put to bed creeps back into his life,” Elba told Netflix. “And John just can’t help but find a way to get involved.”
The movie premieres on Netflix next month. Today, we finally got a trailer. Check it out below.
In addition to Elba, Luther: The Fallen Sun also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.
The screenplay comes from Neil Cross, and Jamie Payne directs. You can see some additional stills from the film below.
Luther: The Fallen Sun will premiere in theaters February 24. Afterwards, it will debut on Netflix March 10.
