Do any of you remember watching the 1981 The Smurfs (or Smurfs’ Adventures, depending on who you ask) cartoon back when you were a kid? You know, back during the golden age of Hanna-Barbera cartoons like Scooby-Doo, Josie and the Pussycats, and The Flintstones? Well, French public television network TV5MONDE (and by extension its associated streaming service TV5MONDEplus) remember. How else do you explain them airing/streaming the first 4 seasons of The Smurfs? Or as it’s called in its native French: Les Schtroumpfs?
The Smurfs Going Back to Their Roots
TV5MONDE is proud to announce that they’re planning to air Les Schtroumpfs (The Smurfs) seasons 1-4, and very soon to boot. They plan to air those 4 seasons on February 1, 2023; which is today as a matter of fact. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), all episodes will apparently in French audio. You know, the primary language of the franchise’s Belgian creator Pierre “Peyo” Culliford? Unfortunately, this means that unless you happen to understand French (or if TV5MONDE provides English subtitles), this might not be the version of The Smurfs for you.
Still, if you do want to watch The Smurfs and relive some childhood memories for the nostalgia, then you can do so on TV5MONDE. For more information about how you can access these channels, you can learn more on TV5MONDE’s official website.
On a side note, The Smurfs will also air on Tivi5MONDE (an international pay television channel whose main goal is to teach French to young children) on February 28, 2023 at 4:00 PM (ET)/1:00 PM (PT). So if you can’t find it on the other channels for some reason, then you can do so on Tivi5MONDE on that date.
