Phoebe Waller-Bridge is bringing Lara Croft to Prime Video with Tomb Raider.
After starring-in and creating Fleabag, the writer/actress is readying a TV series based on the popular video game franchise Tomb Raider. The project is in early development and comes from Waller-Bridge’s new deal with Amazon Studios. The Hollywood Reporter says that Waller-Bridge is attached to write for the series. It’s unclear if she intends to star in the series as well. We’ve seen two previous attempts to bring Lara Croft to the big screen in 2001 and 2018 with adaptations starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
Tomb Raider started off in the ’90s on the PlayStation. Lara Croft evolved into a mascot for the PlayStation brand and was one of the biggest characters in video games. Her popularity waned as the games worsened and got more rushed into the early 2000s. However, the new series of games in the 2010s reinstated Lara Croft as an action star in the video game world. Amazon Games is currently working on the next Tomb Raider game.
In addition to writing the series, she’ll also executive produce alongside Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt. Tomb Raider isn’t the only thing that she’s working on with Amazon Studios, she’s also got Sign Here and another untitled series with Prime Video. Her next film project is the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. She also co-wrote No Time To Die.
