Any fans of the boy band anime UniteUp! here? Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you all. Just like with the NieR:Automata anime adaptation, this anime will also be seeing an indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future. All due to COVID-19 yet again.

Boy Bands Hate COVID-19 Too!

Not even pretty boys are immune to viruses.

The official Twitter account of UniteUp! is announcing that the anime will go into hiatus. All due to a new COVID-19 outbreak in Japan. Coincidentally, this hiatus will go into effect immediately, right after the airing of Ep. 3 on Crunchyroll, just like with NieR:Automata Ver1.1a. Unfortunately, just like with that other anime, this Tweet also gives no date or even window as to when we’ll see this anime again. This means this hiatus is an indefinite one for the foreseeable future. We’ll have to wait for CloverWorks or Crunchyroll to give us that at a later date.

Just like with NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, the only good news about UniteUp! is that all 3 episodes are currently available to watch on Crunchyroll. Even that’s a bit of a mixed bag as far as news goes through. Purely because Crunchyroll no longer believes in free anime, and hasn’t for a while. Thus, you will have to pay for a premium Crunchyroll account just to watch this anime and all others on the streaming platform.

UniteUp!: Synopsis

Is it just me, or does this look like an anime geared entirely towards heterosexual women?

“I’m going to be an idol…?”

Akira Kiyose is a high school student who loves to sing. His songs were published to a video sharing site as the internet singer “KIKUNOYU”. One day, he is scouted by the entertainment agency “sMiLea Production” after they hear his singing voice. The agency was established to nurture up-and-coming idols by the legendary idol duo “Anela” after they suddenly retired. Akira forms a group with Banri Naoe and Chihiro Isuzugawa, who were also scouted. The three online singers are inspired by the idols “LEGIT” and “JAXX/JAXX”, also belonging to the same agency, and aim to make their idol debut with their own thoughts and feelings in mind…!
