The next horror sensation to sweep the nation is Skinamarink. The experimental found footage movie has now grossed over $1 million at the box office. Read our 93% review right here. The film has now earned over 67 times its budget. It was made for $15,000 in director Kyle Edward Ball‘s childhood home. Skinamarink will go from 692 screens this past weekend to over 800 this weekend. Demand for screenings is driving the increase as the film continues to outpace any expectations.
For those that would rather sit and watch the unnerving film at home, there’s good news. It will stream exclusively on Shudder starting February 2nd, 2023. You can get tickets now for screenings this weekend.
Horror is very much alive and well in 2023. For all of 2022, besides superhero affair and a couple of blockbuster films like Avatar: The Way Of Water and Top Gun: Maverick, the box office was kept alive by horror movies. Terrifier 2 made $12.8 million on a shoestring budget, films like Smile, Barbarian, and Scream all led the box office at one point or another.
I wrote in my review of Skinamarink, “Skinamarink slams home that our imagination can create something far scarier than anything we can show on the screen. It’s one of the most all-in films on creating an atmosphere of fear and tension. From the film grain to sound design, lack of sound, lack of faces, and lack of actual plot, it’s 100 minutes that will change you as an audience.”
Plot Synopsis For Skinamarink
