Well, it appears that Adam Warlock (AKA: Warlock) will finally make his live-action debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. How do I know this, you might ask? Well, mostly because of a new still image Marvel just released to a certain famous magazine. Don’t believe me? Then why don’t you check out that image for yourself below?

Warlock Reporting for Guardian Duty?

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Adam Warlock exclusive image from Empire.
Is it just me, or does his expression look like “vaguely puzzled”?

British film magazine Empire has just given us a look at what Adam Warlock will look like in the upcoming MCU film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. That look consists of the exclusive still image above Marvel released to Empire. The image depicts the aforementioned Warlock(played by Will Poulter) standing in science fiction-esque room, with an equally as sci-fi doorway visible in the background. Warlock looks rather imposing in his almost armor-like costume. Combined with his crimson cape, it makes him look almost like a dark version of Superman. The only thing that ruins this image though is his facial expression. Warlock has a puzzled, quizzical expression on his face. As if he’s seeing something that utterly confounds him, and he’s struggling to make sense of it. Which, given what the Guardians are normally like, is not too hard of a task.

Seriously, they get up to weird stuff on a regular basis.

Adam Warlock’s facial expression though actually fits what his personality will be like. In that same Empire article, James Gunn actually gives us an idea of what his character will be like. According to Gunn, Adam Warlock will “definitely not be a good guy”, but he doesn’t appear to be quite a villain though. Gunn states that this incarnation of Warlock at the time of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is “basically a baby”. He’s just been born, and has no concept of right or wrong. Not yet. So presumably, he’s not quite culpable for most everything he does in the film. Not that it will be of comfort to anyone he beats up or kills, but it does make him a more complex and potentially interesting character. You can read James Gunn’s exact words on the matter below:

It’s kind of more complicated than that. But he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby.

We’ll just have to find out on May 5, 2023 what Adam Warlock will be like in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Presumably on Disney+.
