Universal Parks & Resorts division plans two huge moves for regional developments in Texas and Nevada. They’ve acquired 97 acres of land just outside of Dallas, Texas for a child-friendly park. The new development will include rides, shows, a hotel, and character meet and greets tied to Universal’s expansive library of characters.

For this writer, the more exciting of the two developments is plans for a year-round, horror-focused destination in Las Vegas. The new development will be 110,000 square feet and fits right in the new expansion of Area15, an entertainment district that opened in Las Vegas in 2020. The area is brand-new and already features themed restaurants and entertainment attractions such as Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart.

Halloween Horror Nights is one of the busiest and most profitable times for the Hollywood and Orlando parks, but there’s definitely an audience for something like that year-round. They’ll feature content from their historical and upcoming films at the new property.

Mark Woodbury, Chairman of the Resorts Unit at Universal had this to say.

Horror is not just for Halloween anymore at Universal.

As for other details, we don’t have any at the moment, but we’ll keep you updated as these two parks develop. Theme park business has been booming in the US since the COVID-19 pandemic let up a bit and allowed people to return to the parks. Will this smaller-scale expansion pay off for Universal? We’ll have to see.
