Everybody’s had a boss who sucks. It’s just a bit more literal for Renfield. And you know, a bit more dangerous.
Universal Pictures unveiled the first trailer for Renfield today, a modern Dracula tale told from the perspective of his loyal servant. Nicholas Hoult stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar winner Nicolas Cage).
In the film, Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, he’s is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.

Variations on Dracula are pretty much a dime a dozen, but this clip clip features our first look at Cage in action as the iconic vampire. And it’s everything you might expect when you hear the phrase “Nic Cage Dracula.” Kind of weird, kind of funny, and definitely unhinged. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely sold.
Renfield comes from director Chris McKay (LEGO Batman Movie). Ryan Ridley (Ghosted) wrote the screenplay based on an original idea by Robert Kirkman (TWD, Invincible).
In addition to Hoult and Cage, the film also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez.
Renfield premieres in theaters April 14.
