Hulu hopes to kick off a new true crime obsession this spring. The platform will premiere Boston Strangler, a thriller about the notorious Boston murders of the 1960s.
The film, from writer/director Matt Ruskin, follows the trailblazing reporters who broke the story of the Boston Strangler. Two-time Oscar nominee Keira Knightley leads the cast as Loretta McLaughlin, a reporter for the Record-American newspaper. Loretta becomes the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, she attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole (Carrie Coon). Yet the duo finds themselves stymied by the rampant sexism of the era. Nevertheless, they bravely pursue the story at great personal risk, putting their own lives on the line in their quest to uncover the truth.
Ridley Scott produces the film, alongside Kevin J. Walsh, Michael Pruss, Josey McNamara, and Tom Ackerley, with Michael Fottrell and Sam Roston serving as executive producers. In addition to Knightley and Coon, the film stars Alessandro Nivola, David Dastmalchian, Morgan Spector, Bill Camp, and Chris Cooper.
