Do you know how Kaiju No. 8 announced a while back that the manga was getting an anime adaptation? Well, now it seems that they want to hype up said anime adaptation with a brand-new teaser trailer. Don’t believe me? Then you can check out that new trailer for yourself below, and feel the hype emerging like one of those kaiju.
Attack of the Kaiju Anime Inbound at Long Last?
The official YouTube channel of TOHO animation just posted this new teaser PV trailer for Kaiju No. 8. The teaser itself is a bit on the short side. If you remove everything that does not just credit (which reveals that Production I.G of Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the Shell, and Tales of Symphonia fame will be behind this anime), then the actual teaser animation is only just over 30 seconds long. However, that 30 seconds is fairly hype-worthy.
The teaser trailer opens with a rainy day somewhere in Japan. The scene then cuts to the city, where we see that it’s basically in ruins from all the kaiju attacks on it. It’s only then that we see the back of the main character of Kaiju No. 8: Kafka Hibino. You can tell by his hair and his Monster Sweeper Inc. uniform. All he’s doing at the moment is staring at the destruction the kaiju have wreaked on his city. That quickly changes when we see the back of a roughly human-sized kaiju, glowing with eldritch cyan lines across its body. The kaiju turning around to look at the “camera” confirms it to be the titular Kaiju No. 8. And with the whole teaser trailer set to a snazzy rap x jazz hybrid song to boot.
Even better, the very end of the teaser trailer gives us a release window to look forward to. According to that teaser, Kaiju No. 8 will debut sometime in 2024. Admittedly, that means it will be a long while before we get to see how this story does in anime form. In the meantime, you can check out the new key art made to commemorate the new teaser below.
Kaiju No. 8: Key Art
The new teaser art from Comic Natalie above shows the titular Kaiju No. 8, eyes and body glowing with eldritch cyan light and seemingly in the middle of a right hook. Or possibly its aftermath, considering the amount of blood flying across the teaser art. Based on it, it looks like the anime adaptation will be as bloody as the manga.
Speaking of which, you can catch up on the latest chapters of Kaiju No. 8 by Naoya Matsumoto on Shonen Jump at Viz Media. The latest 3 chapters of the manga are free to read, as well as the first 3 chapters. Every other chapter requires a paid subscription to Shonen Jump to read. It’s only $1.99 per month though, so you don’t have to pay that much to check out how great this manga is.
