It’s been a long time coming for Blumhouse’s adaptation of Five Nights At Freddy’s, but now details are starting to trickle out. According to Deadline, Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson are set to star in the upcoming adaptation of the horror video game series. There’s no word on what their roles will be as of yet.
Production on the film begins in February in New Orleans. Lillard is seeing a career renaissance lately with roles in shows like Good Girls, Bosch, Billions, and other series, in addition to his previous work in classics like Scream. He also voices Shaggy for Scooby Doo productions.
Hutcherson has appeared in smaller films since his star-making performance in The Hunger Games series. He’s appeared in The Disaster Artist, The Beekeeper, Little Mouth, 57 Seconds, and Across The River And Into The Trees. He also stars in Future Man on Hulu. He’s also found a nice career in directing music videos.
Emma Tammi is directing the film for Blumhouse and will work with Jim Hensen’s Creature Shop to bring the game’s animatronics alive. Scott Cawthon, Emma Tammi, and Seth Cuddeback wrote the film. Five Nights At Freddy’s follows the player as a security guard tasked with patrolling Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza during the night shift. Throughout the night, the animatronics come to life and start hunting the player.
