Disney Parks announced back in 2020 plans to re-theme the Splash Mountain ride. Now, we’re moving one step closer to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opening in 2024. Unfortunately for fans of Splash Mountain, that means the ride’s impending closure for at least a year.
Disney revealed today that Splash Mountain will officially shutter its doors on January 23, 2023 at Walt Disney World in Florida.
The closure date for the park ride at Disneyland in California has yet to be announced. However, the Disney World closure announcement said that both parks would open Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in 2024. So, that seems to indicate Splash Mountain’s closure at Disneyland won’t be far behind.
Splash Mountain’s Princess and the Frog redesign will replace the ride’s existing theme and characters from Song of the South. It’s an update many see as long overdue, given how Disney has worked to distance itself from the racism of the older animated project.
About Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
The updated ride will follow Tiana and Naveen on a new journey that takes place after the final scene of the film. Guests will join in as the pair plan a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration.
Similar to the original Splash Mountain design, the updated ride will feature a bunch of animals popping up as you journey through the ride. Watch out for everyone’s favorite jazz musician/alligator Louis. You can also expect to meet a bunch of Tiana’s new bayou-dwelling friends, including an otter, a rabbit, a racoon, a beaver, a turtle, and more.
