No one does charmingly grumpy quite like Tom Hanks. And his latest role in A Man Called Otto promises to introduce you to the most lovable curmudgeon of all.
Check out the latest trailer for the film below.
A Man Called Otto tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grump who no longer sees purpose in his life following the loss of his wife. Otto is ready to end it all, but his plans are interrupted when a lively young family moves in next door, and he meets his match in quick-witted Marisol. She challenges him to see life differently, leading to an unlikely friendship that turns his world around. A heartwarming and funny story about love, loss, and life, A Man Called Otto shows that family can sometimes be found in the most unexpected places.
The movie is based on the bestselling book A Man Called Ove by Swedish author Fredrik Backman. It’s personally one of my all-time favorite novels, so I’m really looking forward to seeing Sony Pictures bring this one to life. The book previously got a Swedish film adaptation back in 2015 from director Hannes Holm.
Academy Award nominee David Magee (Life of Pi) adapted the screenplay. He reunites with Finding Neverland director Marc Forster for the project. In addition to Hanks, A Man Called Otto stars Mariana Treviño (Club de Cuervos), Rachel Keller (Fargo), and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven).
A Man Called Otto will begin a limited theatrical release December 25. The wide release launches January 13, 2023.
