Here we go again. It’s like clockwork, the slow season for news kicks off, and we get rumors of Kathleen Kennedy‘s departure from Lucasfilm. Check with your doctor before this one because the grain of salt needed to believe this might send your sodium levels through the roof, but John Campea is saying via his YouTube channel that Kennedy might be done as Lucasfilm president.
“This is what I have heard: I have heard that the decision to remove Kathy Kennedy has already been made and that she will be gone either sometime before or very, very, very shortly thereafter the release of Indiana Jones 5… Now, I want to be very, very clear here: I cannot independently say to you and confirm to you that this is a fact. I will say that one of the two people that have contacted me has a 1000% average on the things they’ve informed me of.”
A certain subsection of the Star Wars fandom has made it their mission to demonize Kathleen Kennedy for whatever reason like she’s the only one that makes decisions on Star Wars movies and TV in the Disney era. Despite the fact that she’s been a producer on some of the most beloved movies of all-time: Gremlins, ET, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Goonies, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, and was an associate producer on Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, people feel the need to make her into the bad guy that ruined their childhoods. So if you have an issue with Star Wars, putting all that hate onto her is a fools errand.
So, while we deal with yet another rumor about her demise at Lucasfilm, one of her greatest allies is back in charge at Disney. Bob Iger is the CEO of Disney once again, and he led the charge to acquire Lucasfilm. Kennedy has been President of Lucasfilm since 2012. Oh and also, her contract runs out in 2025, so if she was leaving, it’s not anytime soon.
Star Wars finally has some momentum after a quiet bit for feature films. They have Damon Lindelof‘s film on the way, Shawn Levy has a film coming, and there’s also Taika Waititi‘s film that’s in development. We’ll have to see how they all schedule out when we get more news.
