The directing team of Radio Silence is taking on Snake Plissken. According to multiple reports (Deadline, Bloody Disgusting, Giant Freakin Robot) the team will direct a new film in the long-dormant Escape From New York franchise with John Carpenter on board as an Executive Producer.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard about Escape From New York, years ago there was talk that Leigh Whannell was in talks to write the film. Now a search is underway to find a writer and plot details are quiet. There’s no word if it’ll be a remake, a sequel, or what, but the original report from GFR stated that Kurt Russell was involved, Bloody Disgusting disputed that portion of the story, and Deadline doesn’t say anything about it.
Radio Silence is made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella. Their last film was the mega-hit Scream, which knocked Spider-Man: No Way Home off its multi-week box office throne. They also made the absolutely excellent Ready Or Not in 2019.
We’ll have to see how this story develops as we get more news.
