Well, Happy Holiday Horror Fans! In a report by Variety, it seems that James Wan (Insidious – The Conjuring), and Jason Blum (The Black Phone) are in “talks” to possibly merge Wan’s Atomic Monster and Blum’s Blumhouse Productions! Apparently, these two horror giants are looking to create a “mega house of chills and thrills” together at Universal.

As we know, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse is currently under a deal with Universal as well. However, if this merger were to go through the deal would extend to Atomic Monster. After nearly a decade, Wan’s first-look deal with Warner Bros. ended earlier this year.

“We really do complement each other, yin and yang, which is part of what makes this so exciting,”

Well, according to the Variety article, after Atomic Monster and Blumhouse merge they will continue to operate as separate labels while also maintaining their own creative and brand autonomy. It seems that Atomic Monster is expecting to use the existing Blumhouse infrastructure to grow its activities on the big and small screens. The entire idea of this “alliance” it to increase output on both sides. On another note, the team also wants to expand into horror-related games, live entertainment, and audio.

So, could the timing for this possible merger could not be better? Horror films at the box office have outperformed their projected numbers. This only continues to prove that audiences love to be scared.

As we already know, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster already have a movie collaboration on the way with their upcoming film, M3gan. A thriller starring Allison Willaims about an AI Doll who is programmed to be the greatest child companion. However, When Gemma (Williams) becomes the unexpected caretaker of her 8-year-old niece, she decides to give the girl an M3GAN prototype, a decision that leads to unimaginable consequences.

M3gan comes to theaters on January 6, 2023.
