It was announced earlier this year that Fede Alvarez would be directing a new entry in the Alien franchise for 20th Century Studios. Now, it’s being reported that they’re eyeing Cailee Spaeny for the leading role in the film. There’s not much else known about the film other than the Xenomorphs will be front and center to the story. It’ll also be unconnected to previous films in the franchise. 20th Century Studios and Scott Free made it a top priority to get filming started sometime in early 2023. They apparently really liked Alvarez’s latest script and pitch for the film.
Division President of 20th Century, Steve Asbell had this to say about it:
20th Century picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch. It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.
Spaeny stars in the upcoming Priscilla from Sofia Coppola and Civil War. Fede Alvarez produced the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) and directed the gory, brutal remake of The Evil Dead. With 20th Century Studios seeing great returns from new films in the Hellraiser and Predator franchises, it was about time they started up on Alien.
We’ll have to see how this story and film develops, whether it’ll go straight to streaming or get a theatrical release when we get more news on it.
So, what do you think of the news that Fede Alvarez’s Alien film might have a star?
