It looks like we’ll be getting Scream 6 a little bit earlier than expected. The Paramount Pictures and Scream accounts both Tweeted earlier this morning that Scream 6 was moving from March 31st, 20233 to March 10th, 2023. That’s a full 21 days, so it looks like they have some confidence in how the movie is turning out to move it up.
Scream 6 has the cast from Scream (2022) returning alongside newcomers Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, and Tony Revolori, and features the return of Hayden Panettiere from Scream 4. Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding are all back from the fifth film. One person who is not returning is Neve Campbell. There was a dispute over money and her role in the film, and she decided she was worth more than what the producers were offering, so she didn’t sign on. It’s a disappointing turn of events for the franchise because Sydney Prescott IS the Scream franchise, so we’ll have to see whenever we get Scream 7 if she’s returning.
Scream 6 also sees the duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return alongside writers Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt. We don’t have any concrete plot details on Scream 6 besides the logline:
In the next installment, the four survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter in New York City.
So we’re going from Woodsboro to New York City. That’s really all we know, we don’t know how Kirby fits into this from Scream 4 or anything else. But we do have a new release date of March 10th, 2023.
