Dreams do come true. Whether solid Netflix viewership or the dreams of thousands of fans manifested it… We’re officially getting a second season of The Sandman!

The dark fantasy series follows Dream of the Endless, aka The Sandman, the powerful cosmic being who controls all dreams. But after he’s unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.

The Netflix show is based on the comic series by acclaimed author Neil Gaiman, who also serves as executive producer. When Netflix greenlit The Sandman for season 2, Gaiman said:

“Millions upon millions of people have welcomed and watched and loved The Sandman on Netflix, from established Sandman fans to people who were simply curious, and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their goings-on. It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing even more of The Sandman stories to life.

There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: they are the biggest Sandman fans there are. And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”

Beyond Gaiman’s tease about the other Endless and Lucifer playing a role in the series moving forwards, we don’t have many confirmed details about season 2. Netflix did not specify any specific plot details for the upcoming season. We also don’t have an episode count, or a reference to exactly which of the comics will get adapted in season 2. And of course, fans will eagerly await further casting announcements as new characters come into play in future episodes.

As a big fan of Gaiman’s original Sandman comics and the Netflix series, I’m excited to see season 2 brought to life on screen. Personally, I can’t wait for dinner with the Endless Family…

You can stream season 1 of The Sandman now on Netflix.
