Disney features aren’t known for showing step-parents in great lights. In fact, they’re pretty synonymous with the “Evil Stepmother” trope. Snow White, Cinderella, and now… enter Disenchanted.
The sequel film to 2007’s Enchanted picks up ten years after Giselle (Amy Adams) left the fairy tale land of Andalusia to pursue her true love, Robert (Patrick Dempsey). But the real world comes with challenges and complications beyond even dragons and ogres. When Giselle makes a wish to capture some fairy tale magic, she winds up transforming herself into the villain of the story.

Here’s the official synopsis of the movie from Disney:
Ten years after Giselle (Adams) and Robert (Dempsey) wed, Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city. So, they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules. And a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
Disenchanted sees Adams and Dempsey reprise their roles from the original film, along with James Marsden and Idina Menzel. The new film also stars Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, and Gabriella Baldacchino.
And if you’re excited for Disenchanted, we’ve got good news: Disney actually moved up the film’s premiere date. It will now debut on Disney+ November 18.
