As it turns out, John Carpenter really wants to do a Dead Space sci-fi horror film adaptation at some point in the future. Whether or not he gets his wish is going to depend entirely on the whims of production studios. Let’s hope at least one of them sits up and takes notice of this.

John Carpenter Ready to Wrangle Those Necromorphs?

There’s something about him that looks like he’s ready to hogtie some Necromorphs in a noir film.

John Carpenter recently did an interview with AV Club where he talked about his favorite video games. Over the course of the interview, the subject gradually veered into film and TV adaptations of video games, like the upcoming The Last of Us TV series. The conversation then culminated in AV Club asking Carpenter if he ever thought about adapting a video game himself. Below is Carpenter’s reply:

“The only one I can think of, and I’ve mentioned it before, is Dead Space. That would make a real great movie. I could do that.”

John Carpenter further elaborates that he liked all of the Dead Space games, including “the last one, the action one that nobody else liked”. Unfortunately, he makes no further comment on this “real great movie” idea he had for this video game series. Likely due to lack of funding and interest in the project. Perhaps this could be a cue for a big production company like Netflix to step in? We’ll just have to cross our fingers, and hope that we’ll get to see Necromorphs on the big or small screen at some point in the future. Along with Isaac Clarke repeatedly dying in various gruesome ways, of course.

Dead Space: Details

Now in glorious, bloody HD for this remake.

Dead Space is a series of sci-fi survival horror video games originally developed by Visceral Games (formerly EA Redwood Shores) and published by EA. The series currently consists of 3 mainline games, 3 spinoff games, and an upcoming remake by Motive Studio instead of Visceral. Said remake will launch on January 27, 2023; so you’ll have plenty of time to get hyped about it.

As for what the Dead Space series about in terms of story? Surprisingly, the remake doesn’t have a good synopsis for us. However, Steam has an official synopsis for the first game from 2008 that’s more informative about the story. Check it out below:

“You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura. You’re not a warrior. You’re not a soldier. You are, however, the last line of defense for the remaining living crew.”

You can preorder the Dead Space remake for PC on Steam or Epic Games Store, or for consoles on the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store. The entire collection of the original mainline games can also be purchased for PC on Steam as part a bundle pack.
