Premiering this Friday as the Closing Night Selection of the New York Film Festival is A24’s The Inspection. The film stars Gabrielle Union and Jeremy Pope in a deeply moving film inspired by a true story.

The film is written and directed by Elegance Bratton (Pier Kids – Documentary). The Inspection is inspired by his own story as a young, gay Black man who is rejected by his mother. With few options for his future, he decides to join the Marines hoping to do whatever it takes to succeed in a system that would cast him aside. While in the Marine he battles deep-rooted prejudice along with the grueling routines of basic training. However, he unexpectedly finds camaraderie, strength, and support in this new community. This moment in time gives him a hard-earned sense of belonging that will shape his identity and forever change his life.
